Zara Ali

I create immersive, multidimensional worlds for us to linger in together. I often draw my inspiration from exploring human development at the intersection of technological advances and speculative visions of the future. While my music often uses programmatic elements, it refuses clear dramaturgical narratives and instead forms a basis for both abstract and analytical fantasy forms. In my recent work I have explored themes such as a future humanity, neuralink, socially constructed algorithms and free will, and fantasized, conscious digital beings. I find music particularly powerful through its immateriality that is simultaneously real with both felt and abstract significance.
My greatest desire is to create a world in which aesthetics is understood as a fundamental medium for shaping human existence.
I have upcoming premieres with ensemble intercontemporain at Festival d’Automne in Paris (October 24, 2025, new work “South Memphis, Bitch”), Kammerakademie Potsdam at Berlin Philharmonie (October 10, 2025, modified recent work “Breakdown Resonanzraum No. 2”), ensemble mosaik at Kesselhaus Brauerei in Berlin (October 29, 2025, new works “Orchestra 2025” and modified work “Confections of the Mind, Version 2”). In May 2026 I will have a premiere of my first large-scale music theater work at the opening night of the Munich Biennale 2026 (May 8, 2026, new work “Codeborn”).
